Job Description:

The Behavioral Assessment Consultant works within the Threat Assessment Program, a division of University Human Resources, that provides violence risk assessments of faculty, staff, students, and visitors affiliated with UI Healthcare. This position ensures efficient, effective, and confidential review when conducting violence risk evaluations while collaborating with departments across the University of Iowa, community partners and other entities as necessary. This position requires responses in-person to campus locations.This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.Threat Assessment ServicesConduct timely and expedited violence risk assessments and provide opinions on violence risk.Performs non-clinical case management.Screen and manage threat assessment reports to assess and identify levels of concern and priority, and use judgement to determine appropriate response which may include involving emergency personnel.Interview persons of concern and other involved parties to independently gather information from complex reports by utilizing investigative, strategic, and analytical skills.Implement effective interventions to mitigate a violence risk.Analyze and collect collateral interviews, documents, and other information relevant to violence risk assessments.Serve as a leader in violence risk assessment and lead consultations in complex situations.Document completed assessments, management actions, and intervention strategies.Performs other threat assessment related duties as assigned or requested.Consultation ServicesEffectively outreach, respond, and schedule client interactions.Consult with reporting parties utilizing empathy, reflective listening, and professionalism.Effectively maintain documentation relating to consultations, interventions, and assessments.Carries out the agreed-upon consulting assignment in a professional manner.Uses formal and informal means to keep client informed on progress and issues.Training EducationOrganize and deliver training to students, staff, faculty, and community on the threat assessment program.For a complete job description, please send an email to Jade Rogers at the Threat Assessment Program:The Threat Assessment Program identifies, assesses, and manages incidents that threaten the safety and well-being of UI students, staff, faculty, and visitors. Together, the Assessment and Care Team and the Threat Assessment Advisory Group implement the program. We collaborate with community members to gather reports of concerning behavior, investigate concerns, and provide resources and support to those in need. Threat assessment involves implementing robust support through compassionate-solution based strategies for individuals experiencing distress or grievances through outreach, intervention, and de-escalation to mitigate the risk of planned physical harm to others or self. The primary objective is to provide an individual with assistance, while working to ensure effective safety outcomes for the campus community.Required Qualifications:A bachelor's degree, preferably in behavioral health, behavioral sciences, sociology, social work, or psychology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience in managing situations and conducting interviews that involve individuals who are emotionally distraught or person(s) with complex personality traits or tendencies.Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work with complex systems, balance multiple priorities, and ensure a high level of accuracy in work produced.Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods.Proficient analytical skills including the ability to analyze a variety of data, determine validity, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.Ability to work with users at all levels of experience as a team member and as a self-motivated sole contributor and autonomously.Valid US driver's license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety driving standards is required.Desired Qualifications:Master's degree, preferably in the field of behavioral health, behavioral sciences, sociology, social work, or psychology.Application DetailsIn order to be considered for an interview, applicants must upload:ResumeCover LetterJob openings are posted for a minimum of 14 calendar days.
