Job Description:
ENGIE has an immediate opening for a Substation Electrician
located in Iowa City, IA. Under general supervision this position
will be responsible for installation, operation, maintenance,
calibration, troubleshooting and repairs of electric utility
substation, distribution and production plant electrical equipment
including but not limited to medium voltage switchgear, protection
and control systems, battery systems, instrumentation, motor
starters and controlsWhat you'll do:* Installs, operates,
troubleshoots, maintains, calibrates and repairs utility electrical
systems including circuit breakers, switchgear, protection and
control systems, battery systems, instrumentation, motor starters
and controls conduit, cable and wiring systems up through 15kV.*
Determines jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required,
procures materials, coordinates outages, completes work, places
systems back into service. * Interprets and maintains wiring
diagrams, schematics, updates system logs, drawings and
documentation on utility systems.* Assists with troubleshooting and
maintenance of program logic controller (PLC) based auxiliary
systems.* Designs and implements control system changes or new
control schemes and advises utility staff of changes.* Installs and
configures new modules, control stations, firmware and software
revisions for the utility computer-based control systems.* Monitors
system performance, using system interfaces, and makes
recommendations for system improvements. * Provides functional
supervision including training and instructions to other staffWhat
you bring:* High school diploma or GED.* State of Iowa Journeyman's
License required* Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License*
Journey level electrician with six years of experience in utility
systems, industrial, process or power plants. Experience must
include at least four years with electric motor controls, station
power systems, and/or electrical and electronic control systems and
at least two years of experience with programmable logic
controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems, CAD systems and
their associated database management systems, or.* An AAS or BS
degree in electronics or instrumentation and control systems, with
four years of experience in utility systems, industrial, process or
power plant. Experience must include at least four years with
electric motor controls, station power systems, and/or electrical
and electronic control systems and at least two years of experience
with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control
systems, CAD systems and their associated database management
systems.* Commercial driver's license is desirable.* Knowledge of
utility systems and equipment.* Knowledge of tools and methods
necessary to troubleshoot and maintain electrical and electronic
utility equipment.* Knowledge of the principles, methods, and
techniques used in the electrical, instrumentation and control
trades.* Knowledge of the principles of electronics.* Knowledge of
the trade occupational hazards and safety precautions while working
in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme
temperatures, excavations, and other environmental caused
conditions. * Knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards, and
safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of
local, state, and national electrical and safety codes, equipment
manufacturers and others.* Ability to read and understand
blueprints, schematics, control system drawings and repair
manuals.* Skill in calibrating utility instrumentation.* Ability to
install and configure control system hardware and software.*
Ability to perform basic math computations.* Ability to maintain
records and system documentation.* Ability to analyze system
problems, recommend and implement system changes.* Ability to
communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department
personnel, vendors and suppliers, students, staff, and the general
