Description and Requirements for our Accounting Specialist II

We are looking for an experienced professional with a friendly attitude and the ability to multitask, to process monthly accounting and payroll for our clients. As a member of the Tax Team here in Iowa City, you will get the chance to provide accounting services best in class service through use of our accounting software programs and our accounting procedures.

A couple things to note about our Accounting Specialist II:

You will be working in person out of our Iowa City, IA office.
This is a full-time position, with a minimum expected hour amount of 40 hours per week.
You will work the general hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM.

The Accounting Specialist II can expect to focus in the following areas:

With your expertise in bookkeeping and payroll, in conjunction with, the assistance of our software, you will get the opportunity to prepare sales tax returns, process payroll and payroll tax returns, prepare bank reconciliations, monthly journal entries, and generate monthly financial statement for our clients.
Your proven written and verbal communication skills will help you successfully communicate missing information, answer and problem solve client questions, and report any issues or concerns with work to management.
You will use your attention to detail to review monthly financial statements prior to manager review.
You will be detail oriented and organized as you maintain a log of accounting documents.
You will use efficient methods of time management and organization to prioritize accounting and payrolls in a timely manner.
Your team mentality and ambition to keep busy will help drive you as you assist with various payroll duties, as necessary (i.e., guide payroll clients on correct treatment of pay items and deductions, research payroll tax notices, process state and federal tax deposits, create and send direct deposit processing files, scanning of documents, etc.)

The Accounting Specialist II position typically requires the following qualifications:

You will possess a minimum of a high School Diploma or GED; Associates degree preferred.
You will come with 5+ years proven success in an accounting role doing write-up and bookkeeping services.
You will have the ability to successfully handle large client volumes while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
You will be proficient with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, and Microsoft Office Suite.
You will exude a proven understanding of accounting and accounting practices.

You will be a mentor and train new staff in accounting procedures and general office procedures as well as provide mentorship and be a role model for other accounting and payroll team members.
You will assist in in the development and implementation of best practices and continuous improvements for the accounting and payroll departments.
