Job Description:
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of
Nursing is seeking a 100% Support Service Specialist to work for
the Dialysis Water Program. About the Dialysis Program: The
University of Iowa Dialysis Program operates 9 different dialysis
units throughout the hospital and throughout the region. At the
main campus, there is a pediatric unit, a home unit, an in-center
unit, and an acute inpatient unit. There are four satellite units,
and they are located in North Liberty, Grinnell, Muscatine, and
Washington. We also provide services at the Encompass Inpatient
Rehab Hospital. Responsibilities: RO Disinfection and Water and
Dialysate Sampling for all Units and Portable RO's Monthly water
and dialysate sampling PLUS yearly AAMI collection Reviewing and
overseeing results of all sampling Share results with medical
director and obtain signature on lab results Monthly disinfection
(or more frequently if needed) of all dialysis units and portable
RO's and Tablo hemodialysis machines Documentation of monthly
disinfection Coordination of the monthly disinfection and sampling
schedule as needed Attend scheduled meetings with dialysis
management team to update on and review status of the UI Dialysis
water program as well as the status of staff education on water
Supply/equipment ordering relevant to the water and technical
program On-call and after hours contact for water questions and
problems Communication with UI Dialysis Program water contractor
re: water needs/issues Myron L meters Education and training with
staff, audits of staff performing calibration of meter
Bio/maintenance of Myron L meters Other Duties as Assigned,
including: Emergency Preparedness Plan development Color Blind
Testing for all new staff Water education and training at the ICNNT
Spring CEU as needed Planning and input for dialysis units,
including capital requests and equipment replacement needs
Coordinate and/or deliver supplies and medications to units as
needed Address broken equipment issues for all units (including
chairs) Assist with unit inventory Update MSDS as needed at each
unit Expectation of on-going continuing education and training
related to CMS water requirements for dialysis. Expectation that
the technical coordinator will obtain the National Nephrology
Certification Organization (NNCO) Certified Dialysis Water
Specialist designation within 6 months of meeting the
pre-requisites to sit for the examination. University of Iowa

Schedule: 8-5 Monday through Friday with need to flex schedule to
cover RO disinfection needs at various units based upon unit
operating hours, including some evenings. On call and travel
required. Pay Scale: 3A Location: Travel - North Liberty, Grinnell,
Muscatine, Encompass Inpatient Rehab Hospital and Washington.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent of
experience. Proven dependability and performance as a team player.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in
computer spreadsheet and database applications and experience with
Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Demonstrated attention to detail. Desired Qualifications:
Experience in dialysis. Experience with hospital operations and/or
Ambulatory Clinic operations. Experience with disinfection and
sampling of dialysis RO water systems. Knowledge of University of
Iowa Hospitals and Clinics policies, procedures, and regulations.
