SummaryThe Iowa City Health Care System is recruiting for two (2) full-time Patient Services Assistants. One position is located at the Coralville VA Clinic and one is located at the Ottumwa VA Clinic.***These positions are temporary, not to exceed 09/30/2021.*** Learn more about this agency ResponsibilitiesThis position serves as a Patient Services Assistant (PSA) under the screening and escort section of the Ambulatory Care Service Line at the Iowa City VA Medical Center (ICVAMC). The position is responsible for supporting the daily COVID-19 screening of patients, staff and visitors. This position also includes escorting and transportation of patients. This position is a highly public one that requires excellent customer service skills. The incumbent assists in all aspect's door screening and coordination and movement of patients and at ICVAMC. The PSA is responsible for performing a variety of administrative and clerical duties and is the liaison between the Escort section and other VA staff in order to assure that Escort is responsive to their needs within the capability of available manpower. The PSA will report issues or needs directly to the Administrative Officer, Ambulatory Care Service Line.MAJOR DUTIES:- The Patient Services Assistant is responsible for the ensuring people entering the facility areproperly screened for COVID-19- Safely and efficiently transports patients, and other patient related articles.- Receives transport requests by telephone.- Is expected to be well-informed of work progress, establish work priorities and makeadjustments to comply with new or revised recommendations from the supervisor.- Prepares and maintains records reflecting work volume and is responsible for the clerical administrativeaspects of scheduling and processing necessary to complete all escort activities.- Keeps up-to-date with room and clinic changes and recommends to the supervisor the revisionof escort directions and resources to meet these changes.- Consults with the supervisor to make changes or coordinate work as needed.- Coordinates the work of volunteers assigned to Escort, assigns requests on selectiveconsideration of transportation method needed to move the patient.- Makes changes to meet deadlines and priorities set by nursing service.- Assures compliance with hand-off communication procedures, checking each patient's nameband prior to transporting to ensure proper patient identification.- Provide and transport equipment as requested.- Disinfects/wipes down transport equipment with approved cleaning product prior to eachpatient transport.- Request assistance from the nursing team to transfer patients to or from transport equipment,if needed. Responsible for notifying nursing or ancillary personnel upon arrival or departure ofpatients.- Attends to the care of documents relating to the patient.- Reports immediately any unusual symptoms of patients i.e., fainting or shortness of breathduring time of transport.Must be able to speak, spell, read, write and understand English. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact well with patients of all ages. Must have good patient relations and courteous manners. Must be able to work under stress in a fast-paced environment. General experience is defined as: Progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.OREducation: 1 year of education above high school. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours. Applicants may also qualify, based on the completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than 1 year.
