Health Care Information Systems (HCIS): Provides and supports information and communication systems and technology that facilitate quality patient care, progressive medical education, and innovative research. HCIS services University of Iowa Health Care by providing comprehensive, high level support for patient care delivery, internal and external communication, technology innovation, medical education, and research. Creating and maintaining a positive, productive, and rewarding environment for information technology and communication staff Position Summary: To design and/or modify components of complex revenue cycle tools and systems. Position Responsibilities: Collaborate with subject matter experts to define functional/technical requirements for new or revised applications. Research system solutions. Create functional/technical specifications for system build. Configure and customize applications. Review the application build for efficiency, completeness and correctness. Perform unit and integrated testing of assigned application workflows. Troubleshoot/debug and identify malfunctioning systems. Implement fixes. Develop and maintain testing scripts for execution during special updates and system upgrade cycles. Resolve complex system problems through participation in on-call rotations. Document system design and build. Create work plans for assigned projects Monitor and report progress of work plans. Evaluate system upgrades to identify new functionality Demonstrate features to the user community and assess applicability, impact and value Optimize workflows with new/modified functionality. May train/mentor users one-on-one or in small group sessions on system functionality and/or changes. A cover letter is desired as part of the application process. Position Qualifications : Education Required Bachelor???s in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience. Experience Requirements Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance business processes, typically 3-5 years for Application Developer. Experience working with end-users to define system requirements and understand business needs; Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff. Ability to wear a pager and provide some 24x7 on-call support, Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment Highly Desired Qualifications Epic Professional Billing, Hospital Billing, Claims or HIM certification is highly desirable. Desired Qualifications Familiarity with health care revenue cycle practices. Experience with hospital/physician billing systems or physician office management systems. Experience with Perl or similar scripting languages
