Job Description:

The Department of Internal Medicine within the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa is seeking a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist to join our clinical track faculty. Appointment will be on the non-tenure clinical track at the assistant clinical professor level. The position is a 0.5 FTE and consists of 100% clinical time. The Department of Internal Medicine is recruiting a psychologist, clinical mental health counselor, or marriage and family therapist to join our outpatient team to provide primarily clinical services to patients in the Weight Management Clinic. This person will be responsible for providing outpatient therapy and clinical assessment as well as education and consultation to patients/families and care providers, as well as provide supervision of graduate student psychotherapy. Therapy may include evidence based individual, couple, family, and group therapy models. This person will engage in teaching at multiple levels, such as medical residents/fellows, medical students, and graduate students. Teaching opportunities include more formal didactics and clinical teaching. We will work closely with the candidate to optimize their time to work in preferred areas of interest. Education Requirement: - Doctoral degree in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology, Counselor Education and Supervision, Marriage and Family Therapy or equivalent. Required Qualifications: - Demonstrated excellence in patient care, consultation, and collaboration. - Prior experience providing psychotherapy to patients with chronic health conditions, eating disorders, and/or patients wanting gender affirming care. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. Certifications: - Licensed or eligible for licensure and health service provider status in State of Iowa. Desirable Qualifications: - Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment. - Demonstrated experience conduction psychosocial assessments and writing letters of support for patients wanting gender affirming medical interventions. - Demonstrated experience providing supervision for graduate student psychotherapy trainees. - Demonstrated experience working with patients with diabetes and issues related to binge eating disorder and obesity.
