joining our team. About the Role: The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a
critical role in delivering safe, evidence-based medical care to
individuals in residential treatment for substance use and
co-occurring mental health disorders. As an essential member of the
multidisciplinary team, the RN provides clinical oversight,
conducts assessments, administers medications, responds to medical
needs, and supports the therapeutic milieu through trauma-informed
care. This role ensures that all nursing services are delivered in
alignment with regulatory standards, professional guidelines, and
the organization’s commitment to high-quality, person-centered
care. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Care &
Assessment Conduct nursing assessments, evaluate high-risk
indicators, and document findings accurately and promptly. Provide
direct medical evaluation and intervention as needed, maintaining a
calm and professional presence. Complete individualized nursing
care plans for each patient admission. Participate in and support
medical discharge planning beginning at intake. Medication
Management Administer and manage medications with accuracy,
including during shift handoffs. Collaborate with pharmacy and
medical providers to ensure correct medication orders and MAR
reconciliation. Monitor for medication side effects or adverse
reactions and intervene appropriately. Collaboration & Treatment
Planning Actively participate in interdisciplinary treatment team
meetings. Contribute to comprehensive care plans that address
medical, psychological, and recovery needs. Serve as a liaison with
external hospitals, providers, and families for coordinating
medical care. Documentation & Regulatory Compliance Maintain
accurate, timely nursing documentation in accordance with facility
policy and regulatory standards. Support compliance with all
licensing and accreditation requirements related to nursing
practice. Base clinical decisions on professional guidelines,
clinical standards, and evidence-based practices. Milieu Support &
Safety Support a safe and therapeutic environment for patients,
modeling professionalism and trauma-informed engagement. Assist in
crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning alongside
clinical and RSS teams. Assist with other medical or
program-related duties as needed to support patient care. Minimum
Qualifications Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license
in the state of employment (required). Associate Degree in Nursing
(ADN) or Diploma in Nursing (required). Current CPR/First Aid
certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or
advanced degree (MSN, MPH). 2 years of experience in substance use
disorder (SUD), psychiatric, detox, behavioral health, or related
settings. Experience with trauma-informed care, co-occurring
disorders, or medical withdrawal management. Key Competencies
Medical Competencies Skilled in patient assessments, risk
identification, and development of nursing care plans. Proficient
in direct medical intervention, including assessment of withdrawal
symptoms and acute medical needs. Ability to support a therapeutic,
recovery-focused milieu. Strong knowledge of medication
administration, MAR processes, and medication reconciliation.
Experienced in interdisciplinary discharge planning. Team &
Leadership Competencies Active, collaborative member of the
treatment team. Provides clinical guidance to medical support staff
and contributes to overall clinical quality. Represents the medical
department in communication with hospitals, providers, and family
systems. Regulatory & Documentation Competencies Accurate, timely
charting aligned with facility policies and state/federal
requirements. Supports program quality reviews and ongoing
regulatory compliance. Uses evidence-based standards to inform
nursing decisions. Professional Development Competencies Maintains
licensure, certifications, and mandatory trainings. Engages in
continuing education, supervision, and performance improvement
activities. Work Conditions / Physical & Mental Requirements Work
Environment: Primarily indoors in a climate-controlled medical or
clinical setting. Physical Demands: Standing, walking, sitting,
bending, and repetitive tasks such as data entry and assessments.
May involve lifting, transferring, or repositioning patients (
Emotional Resilience: Ability to remain calm and solutions-focused
during patient escalation, crises, and emotionally charged
situations. Critical Thinking: Daily responsibilities involve
interpreting clinical data, identifying risk indicators, and
anticipating medical and operational impacts. Prioritization Under
Pressure: Ability to manage multiple urgent tasks while maintaining
care quality and regulatory compliance. Communication Skills:
Clear, empathetic communication with patients, families, staff, and
external partners. Attention to Detail: Thorough monitoring of
patient safety, documentation accuracy, and regulatory
