Shifts are typically 12 hours, covering both days and nights, and you may be assigned to various units including intensive care and step-down units. Recommended qualifications include completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program (associate degree minimum), current licensure as a respiratory therapist, and experience with ventilator management, diagnostic testing, and emergency interventions. Strong communication skills and the ability to educate patients and families are also important.
