Job Description:

This Professional & Scientific position will be filled as either a Project Manager (PAE2) or Senior Project Manager (PAE3) based on candidate qualifications and interview evaluation. University of Iowa Health Care has an opening for a Senior/Project Manager to support its enterprise-wide strategic initiatives to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive environment in which to work and learn. This position will be appointed through the Health Care Project Management Office (PMO) within the department of Health Care Information Systems (HCIS). The overarching goal of the PMO is to provide Project Management support for the University of Iowa Health Care community, through the application of the Project Management Institute global standard methodology, for delivering projects within budget, on schedule, according to scope, and in a way that best contributes to accomplishing the University of Iowa Health Care strategic plan.

This project manager will be dedicated to supporting, leading, and overseeing the UI Health Care DEI Initiatives and projects across the enterprise.

The responsibility for this position will be to employ basic project management skills to ensure that DEI project goals and objectives are met within the established requirements. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparing project status reports, tracking resource management, conducting/facilitating project meetings, ensuring the project progress on schedule, addressing constraints, and mitigating risks and challenges in a timely manner.

Advanced project management skills associated with this position will require the ability to work with a range of stakeholders including the Office of the Vice President for Medical Affairs, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Carver College of Medicine, staff-level employees, department-level leadership, hospital administration, medical & clinical staff, division leadership and technical users. It will be the responsibility of the project manager to analyze project requirements, develop implementation strategies and provide guidance and oversight throughout the program/project management life cycle, serving as a change agent for the organization and working effectively in a diverse environment in conjunction with the project leaders and executive sponsors.

  • Support senior leadership in executing on the UI Health Care values and DEI goals.

  • Partner with the Office of Vice President for Medical Affairs, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and other internal and external stakeholders to successfully implement DEI initiatives and projects.

  • Drive leadership awareness, commitment and accountability for the DEI action plans across the organization through defined deliverables and measurable performance metrics.

  • Gather and report on progress against action plans and expected benefits realization.

    Education Required
    A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business or Management, Public Health, Health Administration or a related Health Industry discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Project Management experience, typically 3-5 years implementing and managing multiple medium to large-scale programs/projects
    • Demonstrated ability to engage and lead operations project in health care or other relevant industry.

    • Proficiency in key performance improvement techniques including current state assessment, KPI development, and workflow mapping / redesign
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on customer service utilizing established PMO Program/Project Management methodology, processes, procedures, tools, and techniques to improve quality measures and metrics.

    • Ability to lead process improvement activities to make enhancement recommendations and implement workflow and business process changes.

    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of management and project team members.

    • Demonstrated strong project management, organizational and facilitation skills.

    • Experience leading teams and people to successfully implement change utilizing a positive, can-do attitude to inspire others.

    • Proficient in Project Management tools such as MS Project, MS Word, MS Excel, MS SharePoint, MS Visio, and MS PowerPoint.

    • Experience with the concept of the PMBOK (Project Management Book of Knowledge) and applying project management principles, methodology & processes, tools & techniques to managing projects.

    • Ability to simultaneously lead multiple small to large-scale projects.

      Desired Qualifications

      • Demonstrated commitment to self-reflection and personal and professional growth on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

      • Understanding of key concepts and terms (e.g., implicit bias) frequently used in the context of discussions on DEI and efforts to address institutional racism, sexism, and other forms of bias.

      • Project Management experience within a health care delivery setting.

      • Demonstrated ability to engage as individual contributor in successful project management and implementation.

      • Preference will be given to candidates with educational and certification credentials combined with Project Management experience in an operational health care industry.

      • A Master's degree in Business Administration, Business or Management, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related Health Industry discipline.

      • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), Master Certificate in Project Management, Public Heath Certification or Informatics Certificate, Prince2, AIPM Certified Practicing Project Manager (CPPM), ITILv3, Lean, Agile and/or Six Sigma certification.
