at our Iowa City, IA facility and reporting to the Service Manager,
you’ll hit the road from a company vehicle and spend your day
keeping complex HVACR systems running in commercial and industrial
settings. You’ll diagnose issues, perform precision maintenance,
and complete installations on equipment such as steam and hot-water
boilers, air- and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, pumps,
flat-plate and tube-in-shell heat exchangers, hydronic air handling
units, and related hydronic systems and accessories. How you’ll
make an impact Continuously monitor and evaluate operating
equipment and controls, troubleshooting to maintain safe operation
and extend equipment life. Perform routine mechanical repairs
(e.g., seals, bearings) and correct deficiencies you discover.
Inspect and test systems to verify they meet plans and
specifications; pinpoint and resolve malfunctions. Listen to and
clarify customer concerns about their applied HVAC systems; provide
clear recommendations grounded in data. Adhere to all standards,
policies, and safety procedures; keep your work area organized and
spotless. Validate fixes with customers to confirm malfunctions are
resolved. Document faults, unusual occurrences, time, and materials
on work orders. Pressure-test pipe and tubing joints to confirm
leak-free connections. Calibrate and balance systems by setting
controls to manufacturer-recommended values. Execute preventive
maintenance: clean, power-wash, vacuum, lubricate components, and
replace filters. Install auxiliaries per blueprints: expansion and
discharge valves, ductwork, piping, blowers, dampers, flues, and
stokers. Coordinate with repair and maintenance teams to support
larger scopes of work. Install, connect, and fine-tune thermostats,
humidistats, and timers. Generate work orders to address identified
deficiencies. Connect piping to fuel, water, and refrigerant
sources to complete circuits. Assemble, position, and mount
heating/cooling equipment in accordance with blueprints. What you
bring High school diploma or equivalent plus 5 years of HVAC
operation, maintenance, and repair experience in the HVAC/R trade.
Hands-on knowledge of HVAC service and installation methods;
electrical circuits and wiring; motor operating principles; and
local electrical codes. Clear, professional communication with
teammates and customers. Ability to follow written and verbal
instructions and work from blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and
reference materials. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and
basic math skills. Proficiency with hand and power tools. Valid
driver’s license. Physical demands Must be physically able to
operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic
and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other HVAC
equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry
objects or materials. This position requires: stooping, kneeling,
crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking,
pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking,
hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 50
pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force
frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of
medium work. Work environment This job operates primarily alone on
HVAC and boiler equipment in all environments, which includes
extreme cold or heat depending on the time of year. Vehicles are
used as the base of operations. Preferred proficiencies HVAC HVAC/R
